Downtown Construction Spring/Summer 2013
Here's how to get around in the State Street and Capitol Square areas.
S. Webster St. (Outer Loop) March 29 - early July
The City of Madison will reconstruct S. Webster St. between E. Washington Ave. & King St., from
March 29 through early July, including the entire intersection of S. Webster/E. Doty/King St and the E. Main/S. Webster intersection.
One travel lane will remain open on Webster at all times.
No on-street parking on S. Webster between King & E. Washington or on 100 block E. Doty, but the majority of on-street parking on King St. will be available during the project.
King St. (both blocks) will be one-way, "outbound" (eastbound) for the duration.
Right turns from Doty Street onto 200 block King Street will be maintained at all times.
Temporary Loading Zones: a) 100 block King (outbound side); b) 10 block E. Doty on left side, before S. Pinckney St. and c) from about April 8 to early may, angle parking area on 100 E. Main St. during time when E. Main is converted to 2-way.
Detour routes will vary, see below for current status.
April 10 through early June
No through traffic on E. Main across S. Webster and no left turn onto E. Main from S. Webster. (Left turn onto E. Main may be available intermittently, but don't count on it.)
100 block King will be converted to one-way outbound on Monday April 22 (contractor had left it two-way as long as possible).
Tenney Plaza parking: E. Main will be converted to two-way between King St. and Webster so you can drive the "wrong way" down the 100 block of E. Main (turning left from King coming from the Capitol Square) to get to Tenney Plaza garage. Starting around April 17, the angle parking area on the 100 block of E. Main will become a temporary loading zone for small delivery vehicles.

N. Fairchild St./W. Mifflin St. (Outer Loop) March 25-May 24
The City of Madison will reconstruct the 10 block of N. Fairchild St. (Mifflin to W. Washington) and the 200 block of W. Mifflin St. (Fairchild to Henry) March 25 through May 24. During this time, a private building construction project will occupy one parking lane in the 100 block of N. Fairchild (State to Mifflin), and the Central Library reconstruction will continue, but will no longer be occupying the street on N. Fairchild or W. Mifflin.
One travel lane will remain open on the 10 block of N. Fairchild, but no on-street parking.
W. Mifflin will remain one lane, one-way westbound between N. Fairchild and N. Henry (as it has been for Central Library reconstruction).
From May 24 - June 23, Central Library reconstruction will continue to occupy one lane of Mifflin and the short parking lane next to the Library on Fairchild. Mifflin will remain one-lane westbound with the addition of operational on-street metered parking on the "Overture side" of Mifflin.
